They camped out in the back yard
He pointed up at the sky
And said that a UFO would take him some time.

"You'll be sorry when the space ship comes."

Got sent to the principal
Because he wouldn't quit telling lies
He told his classmates all their ships are camouflaged
Green and white
His home was a city made of diamonds
Everyone was invited
Jupiter's air smells like warm fires
And it snows all the time.

"Make it up, make it up!
Shut up Johnny, always making shit up."
"You'll be sorry when the space ship comes."

"You'll make it worse if you keep this up.
Don't make it worse, you're a dreamer."

Then one night, the whole neighborhood
Went out on the street to see
The midnight commotion
All fog and metal and laser beams.

Turns out he was right. Johnny boards the ship.
He will spend his life chasing comet dust
And choking on robot rust.

Johnny's brother runs to the door crying,
"Don't go! Don't go!"
The neighborhood behind him screaming,
"Leave us alone! Leave us alone!"

Johnny tells his brother,

"When you look at Earth from space,
It takes your breath away.
Nobody really belongs here.
It's time to go home."
